Shopping-mania during this year’s festival

JOBURG – Shop 'til you drop at this year's Joburg Shopping Festival.

The third Joburg Shopping Festival kicks off this week with a total of six malls across Gauteng is set to deliver blowout discounts and sales to bargain hunters.

This year’s edition, which will run until 9 August, has grown threefold since their inaugural year when only two malls participated, with 2016’s Joburg Shopping Festival boasting Rosebank Mall, Oriental Plaza, Sandton City, Nelson Mandela Square, Maponya Mall and East Rand Mall as participating shopping centres.

“We’re thrilled at how the shopping malls have bought into the Joburg Shopping Festival,” commented James Delaney, co-founder and CEO.

“We were always confident that this was a winning concept, and were affirmed by the partners who came on board – the Gauteng Tourism Authority, Union Pay International, Joburg Tourism and South African Tourism all recognised the incredible potential of the event, and committed wholeheartedly to the project.”

This year’s edition has taken on a wider focus and will be hosting six fashion bloggers from across the African continent. Representing Nigeria, Kenya, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and South Africa, these individuals are participating in a three-day tour of Gauteng province, communicating their experiences directly to their audiences back home in real time through their social media platforms.

From visiting and shopping in each of the participating malls to a helicopter ride across Joburg and starring in a fashion shoot on Soweto’s iconic Vilakazi Street, the bloggers are going to get a unique taste of the varied treasures that Gauteng offers. They certainly have their work cut out for them as they explore more than 400 retailers who are part of this year’s festival.

Among the confirmed stores are iconic brands such as Adidas, Nicci Boutiques, Kurt Geiger, Subwear, Khaliques, Palazzo Pitti, NWJ, Markhams and Europa Art Shoes.

“The extent of the Joburg Shopping Festival’s growth is largely thanks to their vision and support – and we’re looking forward to a landmark year in 2016,” Delaney concluded.
