Queue votes canvassing hits a Vorna Valley polling station

KYALAMI - Voting going smoothly in Ward 132

Voting is going smoothly in Kyalami, Midrand and other areas, but with long queues at some stations.

By 2pm, more than 2 000 voters had cast their ballots at Vorna Valley’s Future Stars polling station with around 5 500 voters.

There was, however, a disturbing incident at Future Stars where the ANC members had to be stopped from canvassing for votes from people in the queue.

DA candidate for the ward, Annette Deppe said she had to ask Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) officials to change the direction of the queue. “The queue was passing through the ANC tent and they were canvassing for votes, but I got the officials to change the direction of the queue,” she said.

Deppe, however, complained about the slow pace at most polling stations in her ward. She expressed concern that by 7pm some people might not have cast their ballot.

“The process if very slow as if someone is staging a go-slow,” said the humorous Deppe.

She said she was confident, “This is a DA ward and there is no way I will not win it.”
