So-called power outages

FOURWAYS – A resident complains about frequent 'power outages'.

K.W. Morris of Fourways writes:

We are presently experiencing our fourth or fifth power outage in just over a week, totaling more than six hours without electricity despite Eskom and (Jacob) Zuma promising the nation that we would never again experience load shedding.

Were they lying?

The longest was one night, when our power was ‘switched off’ for more than four hours. The others have been during the day, lasting about half an hour each. I’m sure this is intentional, as Eskom hopes no one will notice a ‘switch-off’ while sleeping, and half an hour outages during the day can be claimed as essential maintenance.

How dishonest.

Unfortunately for Eskom, modern electronic equipment (with clocks) record outages and security companies advise customers of power failures.

Each morning and evening, I listen to the radio traffic reports and they inevitably report on three to four power outages per day across Gauteng, resulting in non-functioning traffic lights during peak-hour traffic creating havoc, chaos and mayhem at innumerable intersections.

This current ‘power outage’ has now lasted for more than one and a half hours (and counting).
