UPDATE: Two dead following botched home abortion

FOURWAYS – Police discovered two bodies in a property on Niven Road in Douglasdale, in what appears to be a failed illegal abortion.

Douglasdale police officers responded to a 1011 call on Saturday afternoon, 24 July, where a mother and her foetus died after an alleged botched abortion.

Warrant Officer Balan Muthan of Douglasdale Police Station said it appears the abortion took place the previous day. Paramedics were called to a property situated in Niven Road in Douglasdale, twice, over the weekend.

The first time was on Friday, when they found the woman unresponsive and declared her dead on the scene.

Paramedics were then called out to the property again on Saturday afternoon when the foetus was allegedly found under the bed and wrapped in a towel, this according to Chitra Bodasing, spokesperson for ER24. The foetus was also declared dead.

Douglasdale police officers were on the scene on both occasions to further investigate the incident, Bodasing added, and an autopsy will be performed on the woman to determine the exact cause of death.
