21 jobseekers arrested at Builders Warehouse

LONEHILL - Community members are advised to refrain from picking up and making use of cheap labour.

 

Police arrested 21 suspects outside Builders Warehouse in Lonehill, for loitering, and seven were arrested for illegal camping on 13 and 14 July.

According to Warrant Officer Balan Muthan, head of communication for the Douglasdale Police Station, the operation was a partnership between the police and Metro police which was put in place in order to eradicate the loiterers and bring calm to the neigbourhood.

Muthan pleaded with community members to refrain from picking up jobseekers who loiter outside the hardware store and make use of their cheap labour.

“We have received numerous complaints from community members about jobseekers outside the hardware store harassing customers and loitering around. These operations will be held on a regular basis as the police and Metro police have committed to cleaning up that specific area,” Muthan concluded.
