Little fighter going strong

LITTLE FOURWAYS VILLAGE – The little 15-month-old Liam Fraser-Bothma, who experienced an accidental near-drowning on 9 June, is slowly but surely making steps towards recovery.

Liam Fraser-Bothma suffered a near-drowning experience on the evening of 9 June and has been in the hospital under sedation ever since.

On  19 June, he managed to take five breaths on his own without the use of a ventilator, and he continues to power through.

On 9 July, an update appeared on the Liam Fraser-Bothma Update Facebook page stating that the little lion, although still fighting an infection and pneumothorax, was able to do ‘short bursts of about 40 minutes to an hour of spontaneous breathing’. His parents also stated that he was able to grip their fingers with both hands.

On 10 July, the doctors were able to remove all the drips and the central line, and the little guy had a sneaky visit from his older sister. Reportedly, it was the first time she had seen her brother in over a month.

Unfortunately, just a few hours later, Liam picked up a fungal infection, which is currently being treated. However, he still shows his fighting spirit as he is able to take his daily feeding and is still managing short bursts of spontaneous breathing. “He also seems to be responding more and more when we touch him,” a Facebook update read.

The community still rallies behind the little lion as his family continues to update them on his condition using the Facebook page.
