Six injured after truck loses control

MAGALIESSIG – A refuse removal truck lost control and overturned on Sangster Road at 10.20am on 11 July.

Emer-G-Med have reported that at least six people were injured after a refuse removal truck lost control and overturned on Sangster Road in Magaliessig.

Paramedics arrived to find that two occupants were trapped within the trucks cabin. The truck was reportedly resting on their lower limbs, leaving them in a critical condition. One passenger of the truck sustained a head injury and both patients required immediate Advanced Life Support care.

Paramedics worked to stabilise the patients, while the Lonehill Fire department used the “jaws of life” and other equipment to cut the cab of the truck, in an effort to free the injured men lasting upwards of an hour.

Another four people sustained minor to moderate injuries.

Once the patients were removed from the wreckage, they were both immobilised and transported to Netcare Sunninghill Hospital for definitive care.
