An icing-on-the-cake kind of initiative

SUNNGINGHILL - Read to see what went down at the Ice A Cupcake For Charity drive.

Icing your own cupcake in order to give back to those in need was the order of the day in the Ice A Cupcake For Charity drive which took place at Sunninghill Village on 28 May.

The drive saw community members decorating and icing their own cupcake which was bought for R15.

With every purchase, R5 went to the cost of making the cupcake and R10 went to Moses Miracle Centre.

The centre is a non-profit organisation based in Midrand which strives to interact and form partnerships with other welfare organisations, institutions of learning and government institutions in order to empower and develop skills in the homeless and assist underprivileged children in Midrand.

Community members who supported the charity were also given an opportunity to drop off old clothing, non-perishable goods and essential products needed for the centre.

Pupil of Beaulieu College, who helped assist the charity drive, Miescha Valadao said, “I have always dreamed big as I have been given the opportunity to attend The International Talent Showcase and New York Film Academy Summer Programme. To make this dream a reality I have had amazing sponsors come on board. I believe when one receives one should give back, hence I decided to start fundraising for different charities.”

Valadao added that with the help of her mother as well as Ward 112 councillor and candidate for Ward 93, Candice James, Moses Miracle Centre was the first charity she had the privilege of working with and said she looks forward to more of these initiatives in the months to come.
