Fun and laughter at first Roast Battle

MAGALIESSIG - Read to see which comedian reigned supreme at Comedy Central's first Roast Battle.

Tummies were tickled with a serving of laughter, which is the best medicine, after all.

This as guests enjoyed Comedy Central’s first Roast Battle at Parker’s Comedy & Jive at Montecasino. The event took place on 26 May and was chaired by stand-up comedian, John Vlismas as six comedians went head-to-head in teams of twos, battling it out to see who would be crowned the ultimate roast master.

Dillan Oliphant was up against Dusty Rich; Nina Hastie went head-to-head with Chris Forrest; and Nqoba Ngcobo battled Mo Mothebe.

The winner of the Roast Battle was Oliphant who gave his fellow comics a good roasting. The dry-witted comedian burned stand-ups Chris Forrest and Dusty Rich with a series of scorching one-liners, epic takedowns and blazing insults.

Vice president of Comedy Central Africa, Evert van der Veer said, “All the contestants gave a really strong account of themselves but Dillan made toast of the other contestants with a series of red-hot original one-liners that floored his opponents and really set the benchmark in our fun, new combat-driven comedy event.”

The inaugural Roast Battle was attended by a host of celebrities including guest judges, American comedian, film and television actor Orlando Jones, stand-up comedian, David Kau and businessman, Kenny Kunene, alongside news anchor Leanne Manas and Jason Goliath.

Roast Battle will premiere exclusively on Comedy Central, DStv channel 122, later in the year.

The next episode of Comedy Central Roast Battle, featuring Mark Banks, Richelieu Beaunoir and Ebenhaezer Dibakwane, will be recorded in front of a live audience at Parker’s Comedy & Jive, Montecasino on 30 June.
