Fourways Constituency MP Cameron Mackenzie has reacted with shock at the NPA’s decision to appeal against the High Court’s ruling which set aside the prosecuting authority’s resolution to drop 783 charges against President Jacob Zuma.
In an exclusive interview with Fourways Review, Mackenzie accused the NPA of lacking independence. “The NPA, which should not only act completely independently but, as importantly, be seen to act independently, has chosen to appeal this judgement [which] demonstrates… [its] plan to protect this compromised president from facing justice in a court of law (sic),” said Cameron.
He called on the NPA to allow the rule of law to take its proper course.
“The correct approach would have been to allow the courts to determine the veracity of the 783 corruption charges. Give Zuma what he claims he wants – his day in court,” said Mackenzie.
The High Court’s ruling paved the way for the NPA to re-charge Zuma with corruption and money laundering charges originating from the arms deal.
