Up close and personal with Sbusiso Mthembu, DA candidate for Ward 96

FOURWAYS – Ward 96 meet your DA candidate Sbusiso Mthembu

Intent on serving his community, Broadacres resident and Democratic Alliance (DA) Ward 96 candidate, Sbusiso Mthembu, is driven to make a difference.

He has lived in Broadacres since 2012.

If elected, he would prioritise the following:

  • Formalise informal settlements in the area with full services and, where appropriate, relocation of residents to more suitable and accessible locations.
  • Implementation of the Lanseria Aerotropolis scheme to create local growth and employment.
  • Efficient and consistent bylaw enforcement, visible policing and zero tolerance of bad driving.
  • Effective town planning and building control.
  • Zero tolerance of corruption.

Mthembu said he hoped to achieve all this and more through working closely with community members. “For me, one thing that has been lacking from the DA is communication with community members,” he said.

“We are not interacting enough with the community. In many cases, we tend to do what we believe is right without finding out from the community. We cannot assume what communities want.”

He added that what made it more difficult was balancing the needs of the informal settlements in the ward with that of the suburban areas. “Although it’s a tough one… It doesn’t take a genius to differentiate between the needs of the informal settlement to that of the more developed areas of the ward,” he said.

Born in Mpumalanga in 1976, Mthembu matriculated in 1995. He started his career in finance with a small auditing firm in Braamfontein in 2001. While working he continued studying and earned several more degrees including a BCompt, BComm (hons), MBA (finance and accounting) and MCom (accounting). Mthembu has also worked for several major corporations in the hospitality, private equity, mining and education sectors.

He is currently a senior lecturer in financial accounting at Unisa and is known as a results-driven, diligent individual with a hands-on approach.
