Thieves target the equestrian community

KYALAMI – The Intelligence Bureau team urges the public to assist with investigation into a syndicate involved in stolen horse saddles and tack

 

The Intelligence Bureau South Africa team is currently investigating a syndicate involved in stolen horse riding tack and other equipment, which now totals totalling R14 million.

A forensic investigator for the bureau, who would only go by the name of Warren, explained that the team had received hundreds of complaints from members of the equestrian community. According to him, the syndicate was operating in and around Centurion, Olievenhoutbosch, Kyalami, Mnandi, Pretoria, Honeydew, Chartwell and Fourways.

The team has since requested for the public’s assistance with their investigation. “We are looking for assistance with any information with regards to the stolen horse tack. If you know of the whereabouts of illicit saddles/tack or have any information pertaining to the theft, you are urged to contact us with any information or tip-offs,” Warren said.

The prices of the tack range from R20 000 to R150 000.

All information and leads will be treated as confidential.

Warrant Officer Balan Muthan, head of communications for the Douglasdale Police Station said that the station had only received three cases from Chartwell in 2015.
