Fourways Life Hospital dismisses security concerns as untrue

FOURWAYS - Hospital to activate armed response if swearing and spinning of cars re-occur.

Life Fourways Hospital has finally broken its silence over a wheel spinning incident that occurred on the hospital premises on 14 May.

Hospital manager Jayesh Parshotam said he regretted the incident, which he, however, played down. “There was no critical threat or harm to our patients, visitors, staff or damage to our property. As a result, our armed response was not activated, however, the South African Police Services were contacted,” he said.

His response followed after Kosta Kalarytis complained that the hospital security staff remained unresponsive when a seemingly drunk chap played loud music in his car on the hospital premises before spinning his wheels in the parking lot. Kalarytis claimed the allegedly drunk man also threatened him and another unidentified elderly gent after they complained about his conduct.

He also alleged that the man spewed obscenities at them in full view of hospital staff.

Parshotam shot down Kalarutis’ version and maintained that there was no need to activate the hospital’s armed response. He, however, added that the hospital will, in future, activate the services of their armed response if such an incident reoccurs.

“Life Fourways Hospital can confirm that we have 24-hour security on the hospital premises who were on duty at the time of the incident. Life Fourways Hospital is also contracted to a private armed response security company,” he said. Parshotam added that the hospital security personnel managed to control the situation as soon as the incident was brought to their attention.

“The safety of our patients, staff and visitors is a paramount priority and Life Fourways Hospital has the requisite security measures and control mechanisms to protect those on our premises. Our security guards undergo sufficient training to deal with security breaches, which are in line with the group’s security protocols,” he said.
