Fatal truck accident near Heronbridge

NIETGEDACHT – Truck ends up in Jukskei River, driver fatally injured.

A second body has been discovered in the overturned truck that crashed off the R114 into the Jukskei River.

According to ER24 Spokesperson, Russel Meiring, the ER24 paramedics, along with fire and rescue teams, found the second body trapped inside the cab of the truck.

“The fatal accident occurred when a man was killed this morning after a truck crashed off the R114 Bridge and fell into the Juskei River. Paramedics, along with search and rescue, arrived on the scene and found a large truck lying on its roof in the river, just a few metres away from the bank,” Meiring explained.

“The cause of this incident is not yet known but local authorities are on the scene for further investigations.”

UPDATE: 9 May, 12.18pm

A fatal truck accident has occurred on the R114 in Nietgedacht on the morning of 9 May.

According to emergency services, it is believed that the driver lost control of the truck and landed up in the Juskei River.

Emergency services further added that upon arrival, the driver was assessed and found to have no sign of life. Paramedics declared him dead on the scene.

The City of Johannesburg’s fire department was called to the scene to free the trapped body from the vehicle using the Jaws of Life and other rescue equipment.
