‘Help please, he lost a partner and home’

DIEPSLOOT - Inferno left a pensioner without a partner and a home and now the community is urged to help.

Life will never be the same for 80-year-old Johnson Ndlovu suffered a double loss – his sweetheart and the roof over his head when their shack caught fire on 28 April.

The fire also consumed all his household goods, food reserves and cooking utensils.

Now winter is feasting on the aging pensioner who has to make do with two blankets during the cold nights, and to make matters worse, their bed also went up in smoke leaving him with no option except to sleep on the floor.

The community assisted him to rebuild his shack using remnants of the burnt shack.

DA councillor in the area, Refilwe Mathebula, is appealing to good samaritans to assist Ndlovu with building materials for a new shack.

Mathebula is also urging well-wishers to open their hearts and purses to buy him a bed, blankets, donate clothes, food parcels and cooking utensils.

“I have been to his shack, he is living under inhumane conditions. His floor is muddy and he has only two thin blankets,” said Mathebula.

Ndlovu’s late girlfriend, Beatrice Mhlongo, was buried last weekend by community members who made contributions to fund the burial costs.

She is survived by her boyfriend Ndlovu and two daughters.

Details: Rifilwe Mathebula 082 973 5150.
