Dainfern College congratulates its eisteddfod semi-final contestants

DAINFERN – Dainfern College pupils shine bright in the National Eisteddfod Young Performers Competition

Dainfern College congratulated a number of its pupils along with the school’s marimba band who made it through to the National Eisteddfod Young Performers Competition.

The prestigious competition comprises four rounds where the best of the best are adjudicated by a panel of judges for each arts discipline. The competition takes place from March to May and involves a process of elimination – first round, quarterfinal, semifinal and final round. At the end of each round, a limited number of candidates are selected for participation in the next one.

Deidré Proxenos, marketing manager of the college, explained that only 80 performers – made up of individuals and groups – of the initial 1 345 entries were invited to the four semi-final rounds.

The pupils who made it through were Julius Smith (Grade 10), Robbie van den Steen (Grade 5), Nicole du Plessis (Grade 4) and Fadzai Ndou (Grade 3) as well as the school’s triumphant marimba band.
