Douglasdale CPF announces passing of fallen hero

DOUGLASDALE - The Douglasdale Community Policing Forum (CPF) announced the recent passing of the committed and much-respected Jerry de Beer, who was a part of the CPF's leadership team.

De Beer, who passed away on 23 March, was the secretary of the Douglasdale CPF from 2010 to 2014 before retiring due to health-related reasons.

The chairperson of Douglasdale CPF, Jean Berdou said, “De Beer has been a faithful and hardworking member of the CPF executive for a number of years. He served the Sector 2 committee, the Farmwell and Chartwell communities and was well known and respected for his tireless work in improving the safety of these communities.”

Bedou added that De Beer went about his work quietly and methodically and with determination to always put himself on the front line in the fight against crime. This included being hit on the head with a spanner by an intruder a few years ago.

“This did not deter De Beer from serving the community as he continued to work for the safety of the community. Recently, he assisted with the formation of the new Sector 4 committee and withdrew due to health reasons,” Berdou expressed.

De Beer leaves behind wife Martha and his children.

“On behalf of the community of the greater Fourways area, the CPF would like to express its greatest sadness for his passing and we will greatly miss him. We also thank De Beer and his family for all that they have done for the community,” Berdou concluded.

The Douglasdale CPF will release more details of the funeral service arrangements in due course.
