In-form Mamelodi Sundowns’ yellow machine which currently tops the Absa Premiership log, has claimed yet another Q-Innovation prize.

The Brazilians have been crowned champions of Quarter Three and will pocket yet another whopping R1.5 million in prize money for their efforts. This comes hot on the heels of another win in which Downs were the runaway winners of Quarter Two in January. In Quarter Three, Sundowns lost one match to Bloemfontein Celtic in which the Brazilians were beaten 3-1.

In this quarter, Sundowns finished with 19 points from eight games, while Orlando Pirates, who seem to have finally found their rhythm, and Bidvest Wits finished second and third respectively with 16 points from the same number of games.

The league’s acting CEO, Mato Madlala congratulated the champions of this quarter. “Mamelodi Sundowns have been very impressive this season and it comes as no surprise that they have won two quarters in a row. We would like to congratulate the club, their technical staff and supporters for this achievement.

“With only one quarter still up for grabs [Quarter Four] and with the Absa Premiership race nearing climax, we’re expecting a thrilling finale to the season as teams toughen up for the final run for the big prize,” Madlala said.
