MTN reaches out to rising football talent

JOBURG - MTN showed its love and support for South African football development by donating much-needed soccer kits to the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association and Baviaanspoort Medium C Correctional Centre.

The handover, which was attended by officials from local football institutions and MTN SA sales, marketing and distribution executive, Larry Annetts, took place at the company’s head office.

Speaking at the event Annetts said, “MTN has a long and proud history of supporting South African football. “This is another way of reaching out to our customers and communities in which we operate.

“Our sponsorship of the MTN8, as well as a number of Premier Soccer League clubs, is a reflection of our commitment to the development of local football. We hope that this gesture will go a long way in assisting the recipients in their football ambitions.”

Alex football chairperson, Maisha Molepo added, “This kit donation will go a long way in assisting us [to] further develop up-and-coming soccer talent in Alexandra and we are grateful to MTN for their generosity and hope it continues and also benefits others in the future.”

Vincent Matsi, the officer in charge of recreation at Baviaanspoort Medium C Correctional Services said, “Our appreciation goes to MTN for this much-needed donation. We rely on these donations to keep our league going and this [will] greatly aid us in our mission of having an established and competitive league.”

Alex football has 4 000 players in its women’s and men’s leagues and Baviaanspoort Medium C Correctional Services has seven soccer teams.
