Madiba Forest gets some attention and a clean-up

SUNNINGHILL – In an attempt to keep Nelson Mandela's legacy alive, the Sunninghill Community together with City Parks and Region A council volunteers got their hands dirty to care for 67 trees planted in the Madiba Forest in Sunninghill.

Volunteers were also joined by 26 pupils of Sefekeng Primary School who assisted the team with adding compost and mulch to the trees. The pupils were also given a lesson on how to make compost.

According to Rob Kimmings, manager of Sunninghill Community, the park was developed many years ago and the trees were sponsored by Joburg City Parks.

Kimmings explained that the clean-up was part of a combined project to care for more than 3 000 trees planted in the Sunninghill area. “It’s part of a community build-up and part of keeping the community clean, we [are] also trying to assist City Parks as they also have a huge job,” said Kimmings.

Kimmings thanked all the sponsors and volunteers who made the clean-up possible.
