Sunninghill Taxi Rank remains incomplete

SUNNINGHILL – The Transport Department, Transport Operations and Transport Infrastructure Sub-Directorates recently held a site meeting with taxi operators to discuss the amount of time it has taken for refurbishments to be completed at the Sunninghill Taxi Rank.

According to Ward 93 councillor, Annette Deppe, the refurbishment was meant to be completed by January last year.

The Sub-Directorate explained that the reason the project was not completed is due to the limited budget allocated, which led to the contractor not being able to complete the project in time.

To date, the project has set the department back R800 000 with numerous delays, budget issues and contract problems delaying the process.

The department has since appointed the Johannesburg Roads Agency to lay down tar to level it so the taxi rank can be used.

Deppe said, “JRA is challenged by the fact that the contract for the panel of consultants has expired and they are in the process of appointing a new panel.”
