Body of missing Diepsloot girl found in the Jukskei River

DIEPSLOOT - The body of a six-year-old Diepsloot girl, who was reported missing after being swept off a low-lying bridge during a storm on 25 February, was found in the Jukskei River on 28 February.

The girl, Angel Sibanda, had been swept into the river during a flash flood along with three other children. While the other three children were rescued soon after being swept away, a search was started for Sibanda on 25 February but was called off that night due to bad weather conditions and poor visibility. The search resumed the next day and intensified over the weekend.

According to EWN, Sibanda’s body was found on the morning of 28 February.

It was reported that a man who was fishing in the river noticed the body and alerted police.

Warrant Officer Daniel Mavimbela, head of communications for the Diepsloot Police, was quoted by EWN as saying, “The body was trapped in the rubble and upon arrival our diving unit managed to retrieve the body from the Jukskei River.”
