Fourways High girl’s team compete at annual Old Petts tournament

FOURWAYS - Fourways High School’s water polo first team girls of 2015/2016, captained by Alexa Greig and Sarah Rodda, recently gave their all at this year’s Old Petts tournament.

The team came out victorious in some of their matches, beating both Wynberg Girls’ High School and Parktown High School for Girls by four goals to one in each match. The team persisted through all the challenges with the help of their coach, Wade Brand, the support from fellow pupils and school staff as well as their parents.

The girls played their hearts out as they fought to the last second losing out on the semi-final match to Pretoria Girls High School.

“It is terribly sad that the season is basically over for the matrics, many of whom have played water polo for their entire high school years, but the time has come for them to pass on their legacy to the junior girls,” said the Fourways High teacher in charge of girl’s water polo, Amanda Rykenberg.

“Water polo is definitely not a walk in the park as this last tournament proved to us as we ended with girls sporting bite marks, bruised ribs, arms in slings and a fractured finger. This is a sport that requires high levels of passion, dedication, determination and a high pain threshold.”

The school congratulated the team and the efforts they put in throughout their years of playing water polo.

“Best of luck to the junior water polo teams who are already building their own legacy. The U15 girls team placed 18th out of 20 in the Shaun Fuchs Cup Tournament held at Crawford College Lonehill this past weekend,” Rykenberg concluded.
