Theft of motor vehicles from secure complexes on the rise

FOURWAYS – Douglasdale police have appealed to security companies and management teams of residential complexes to beef up security.

 

This comes after four cases of motor vehicle theft from certain complexes in Fourways were reported in a period of seven days.

Warrant Officer Balan Muthan, head of communications for the Douglasdale Police Station said, “What is alarming is that all four cases reported were from secure complexes.”

Muthan explained that suspects entered the complexes on foot through the main boom gates or jumped the electricity fencing.

The suspects then drove to the gate with the stolen vehicle and held up security officers, robbing them of their belongings before fleeing the scene. In some cases, the security officers were was taken with and dropped off at a secluded location.

“It is becoming common,” Muthan said.

All four cars reported stolen were VW vehicles.
