According to Metro police spokesperson, Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar, Gilmore was informed that she could collect the gun.

Minnaar explained that the gun was taken in for investigation and found not to be a high calibre gun.
Gilmore said, “ They [Metro police] called me on Thursday and I collected it today.”
In a message sent to Gilmore, Douglasdale Police Station commander Brigadier Lettie Hugo said, “I traced the [Metro police] officer who took your son’s air gun. You can phone his commander to make arrangements to collect it and speak to him.”
Gilmore confirmed that she was now in possession of the gun.
