Justice for Luresha is finally served

PAULSHOF – Accused Anthony Strauss (39) was finally sentenced to life for the murder of Luresha Govender and 15 years for a charge of robbery with aggravated circumstances.

Govender (36) was murdered in her home in Paulshof on 30 December 2014. She was strangled by Strauss with an electrical cord after an argument over payment of money. Strauss then stole her car which was later found by police in Windsor.

The sentencing took place on 11 December last year at the Randburg Magistrates’ Court, and proved to be a bitter-sweet moment for the Govender family.

Govender’s mother Rani said, “The sentence will not bring her back but it was a slight consolation for our loss.”

She added that she was relieved that justice was finally served and was happy with the judicial system.

Govender’s brother, Nuren said, “Although this is the best result we could have hoped for, it is also a very hollow victory as it doesn’t change the fact that we will never see her again.”

The accused is set to appear in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court on 14 January where he will appeal his sentence.
