Diepsloot baby-seller found guilty of child trafficking

DIEPSLOOT - Raisible Jacqueline “Mama Jackie” Ramohlola (62), a Diepsloot resident who was once praised for her work with abandoned children was convicted on charges of child trafficking in the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria on 1 December.

This according to News24.

Ramohlola was charged with child trafficking after selling two children to a Mpumalanga couple three years ago.

In 2012 Ramohlola gave a six-year-old boy and infant girl to a Mpumalanga couple in exchange for R30 000.

The children’s “adoptive” father testified on 16 November at the High Court that he and his wife had asked Ramohlola for help after their efforts to adopt children through various Johannesburg adoption agencies were unsuccessful.

The “adoptive” father said Ramohlola told them they had to pay R30 000 if they wanted the children before they fetched them on their second visit.

The couple took the children home to Mpumalanga without any documentation.

After approaching the KwaMhlanga Magistrates’ Court for assistance with documentation, they realised that they had not undergone a formal adoption process.

Throughout the trial Ramahlola denied selling the children.

According to Ramohlola, she warned the couple that it was unlawful to buy children, but insisted that the couple donate R30 000 to her care centre and said the two children could visit with the couple.

She claimed that the couple failed to return the children after their visit and said she laid a child theft charge against them.

The trial was postponed to January 2016 for a pre-sentencing report.
