The Spirit of Christmas thrives in Lonehill

LONEHILL – More than 2 000 residents gathered in Lonehill Park for Carols in the Park.

Event organiser, Shelley Miller, who was forced to turn some residents away said, “I really want to emphasise the reason we turned people away. The Lonehill Residents’ Association (LRA) has to comply with the Joint Operations Council – City of Joburg (JOC), for all Lonehill events, and on their recommendation, for safety and security reasons, we were limited to the number of people in the area that we enclosed for the event.”

Despite this, the show continued. Gracepoint Church kicked off the festivities with a Christmas message and then entertained the children with a hilarious take on the story of Joseph, Mary and baby Jesus.

The event wouldn’t be complete without carols, and talented songstress Melanie Lowe took the lead with a selection of everyone’s favourite Christmas carols.

Ken Barter, a board member of the association and a Lonehill resident, thanked all residents and their families and friends for the continuous support given to the LRA and its events. A special mention of thanks was also extended to all of the sponsors for their generosity and continuous support.
