Creating a safer Paulshof

PAULSHOF – The Paulshof Residents and Ratepayers' Association (PRRA) recently called a number of public meetings with residents to present them with a proposal for a new security initiative.

Albert Gumbo, chairperson of the PRRA explained that as part of the initiative, the PRRA would be setting up an entity which name would only be confirmed as soon as the registration process had been concluded.

Gumbo said the initiative was a crime-prevention measure and was based on Lonehill’s security model. “The entity, whose sole focus will be security, will employ a security manager and manage an approved service provider,” he said.

Gumbo explained that after many presentations to area committees in Paulshof as well as residents’ meetings, Chubb had been selected as the new service provider.

This security will take the form of a technological blanket of security for the entire Paulshof suburb as well as the usual armed response, boom guards and patrols.

According to Gumbo, residents who opted to stay with their current service provider were welcome to do so, however, as many residents as possible would have to contribute to the new entity to allow Paulshof to pay for the security technology solution to allow the suburb to remain the peaceful garden village of the north that it is, “The initiative will only work if residents pull together and support it,” he said.

A marketing campaign to explain the concept to residents who did not attend the public meetings will be launched in the New Year.
