Research at the heart of LCS Clinical Research Unit

As more people develop chronic conditions and diseases, research and study will be a key part in finding treatment and cure.

The LCS Clinical Research Unit, based in Bryanston, conducts clinical studies on behalf of pharmaceutical companies and contract research organisations.

LCS focuses on various conditions, including diabetes, asthma, and rheumatoid arthritis. Lupus, an inflammatory disease that affects different parts of your body, is another area in which the unit also conducts clinical studies on. While there is treatment for this serious disease, there is no cure.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which is caused by smoking, also falls under the unit’s spectrum of clinical study. COPD is classified as progressive, as it worsens over time. People with COPD tend to have shortness of breath, wheeze, and when coughing, produce large amounts of mucus.

Research has always been a cornerstone of LCS, and its studies are approved by the Medicines Control Council and the Pharma-Ethics Independent Research Ethics Committee. As more people develop chronic conditions and diseases, research and study will be a key part in finding treatment and cure.

If you suffer from diabetes, asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, Lupus (SLE), or have children with kidney disease or high blood pressure, please contact the LCS Clinical Research Unit.

Diabetes in particular, according to Statistics South Africa, is the fifth highest cause of natural deaths among South Africans. This means that as the numbers continue to grow, even more research will be needed to find solutions.

You can contact the unit via LCSpatients@gmail.com, or SMS your name and illness to 0788512053. You can also contact the unit for more information on their Facebook page.
