Paulshof strangler’s sentencing cut short by water outage

RANDBURG - The sentencing proceedings of Anthony Strauss, the man found guilty of murdering Paulshof's Luresha Govender in December last year, were cut short on 18 November due to water issues at the Randburg Magistrates' Court.

This according to News24.

The courthouse reportedly had no water since early on Wednesday morning so the accused were taken back to prison earlier than usual.

On 18 November, a homeopathic doctor had just taken the stand to testify in Strauss’ mitigation of sentence.

On 17 November Strauss had taken to the stand where he gave the court reasons as to why he should not be handed the harshest sentence.

During the trail, Strauss had admitted to strangling Govender in a fit of rage on 30 December after the pair had a disagreement.

Strauss had been Govender’s handyman at her Paulshof home.

He told the court he had tied an electrical cord around Govender’s neck and choked her, stating that he had never meant to kill her.

Under cross-examination, Strauss admitted to being addicted to drugs and told the court her had used drugs on the day he killed Govender.

Strauss’ cellphone records were also brought in as evidence and it was revealed that he had spend the day making phone calls to alleged drug dealers as well as his girlfriend.

In fact it was Strauss’ girlfriend who had introduced him to Govender and recommended him for the job.

Strauss allegedly spent several hours at Govender’s home after he strangled her.

Govender’s body was later discovered in her sports car at her home by her brother.
