Broadacres spends 13 days without water

BROADACRES - Some sections of Broadacres in Johannesburg North were without water for 13 days.

This was revealed by resident, Roxanne Segers, in a letter to her Ward councillor, Matome Mafokwane.

Segers also copied her letter to Fourways Review in a desperate effort to get Joburg Water to attend to their dry spell plague.

“We have been without water for 11 days and I am calling out to you to assist me in resolving this matter as a matter of urgency. I have logged a number of calls and complaints with Joburg Water, both through telephone and @JHBWater twitter feeds,” said Segers

Segers said no one ever provided them with updates, so she appealed to her local paper, Fourways Review to intervene.

Local councillor Mafokwane described the non-supply of water as “criminal”. The councillor added that Joburg Water was supposed to have connected new plastic pipes to the water supplies after phasing out the asbestos pipes.

Mafokwane said he has been sent from pillar to post in his quest to get local authorities to reconnect water to the affected residents.

“I have engaged the local engineer, office of the municipal manager and Members of the Mayoral Committee to get Joburg Water to deliver water. I was promised that the water will be re-connected today [17 November],” said Matome.

This paper contacted David Sibiya, a communications official from Joburg Water, who confessed ignorance over the issue. Sibiya was also shocked that residents were subjected to a dry spell for 13 days.

“That is an operational issue and I have to get answers from our guys on the ground as to why people were left without water for that long. Ordinarily, we would have been informed the moment water was cut,” said Sibiya.
