On the green to raise funds for MND

STEYN CITY- The J9 Foundation, established by former rugby Springbok captain Joost van der Westhuizen, in aid of those suffering from motor neuron disease (MND), hosted the inaugural J9 Sox Golf Day at Steyn City’s 18-hole Jack Nicklaus-designed championship golf course on 10 November.

The eventful day had participants playing a round of golf to raise funds for the foundation, and the evening had guests bidding for portraits of Van der Westhuizen’s legendary rugby moments.

Van der Westhuizen spoke about his involvement with the J9 Sox initiative and said, “I am excited that I hosted the J9 Sox Challenge at Steyn City. This incredible golf course is now open to the public and the J9 Foundation team is privileged to work alongside them for this event in aid of those suffering from MND.”

The J9 Foundation aims to educate the general public about MND, a disease that attacks the central nervous system, causing progressive disability. They seek to raise awareness among medical practitioners and nursing staff in order to make timeous and accurate diagnoses and provide better emotional and physical care during the initial detection.

J9 Sox was started in Dubai as a fundraising initiative and is now the annual event for the UAE branch. Due to its great success and popularity, the foundation decided to bring the event to South Africa to raise funds for MND sufferers, and to educate the general public about the disease and its devastating effects on both the sufferer and their families.
