Douglasdale police investigate armed robbery

FOURWAYS – Douglasdale police are investigating an armed robbery that took place at a Fourways department store at 10am on 12 October.

Jean Berdou, chairperson of Douglasdale Community Policing Forum, confirmed that a case of armed robbery had been opened with the Douglasdale police.

Berdou explained that a male entered the department store and allegedly informed the shop assistant on duty that he had a firearm hidden under an object he was holding, and instructed her to hand over certain store items. The suspect fled the scene with an undisclosed number of products after the assistant obliged.

Berdou added that the victim’s colleagues reported the incident to the police after noticing that she was distraught.

According to Berdou, no shots were fired and police have received a detailed description of the suspect. Whether or not the suspect actually had a firearm in his possession is unknown, however, investigations are underway.
