Douglasdale police conduct unannounced drug raid at Chartwell Country College

CHARTWELL – Douglasdale police recently conducted an unannounced drug raid at Chartwell Country College.

This is the second raid at the school, with the first conducted last year, and police found trace amounts of marijuana.

Warrant Officer Balan Muthan, head of communications of Douglasdale Police Station, explained that the raid was part of the South African Police Services’ social crime prevention drive to rid schools of drugs and weapons.

Geoff Lathy, co-principal of the college, complimented the Douglasdale police on their continuous commitment in ensuring their pupils and community were always safe.

Although nothing was found at the school besides traces of marijuana, Lathy explained that it was important to note that there was no such thing as a perfect school.

“Many schools have different challenges ranging from discipline, drugs, bullying and violence. If parents are looking for perfect schools, they don’t exist,” he said.

Sergeant Nicholus Mokwena of the social crime prevention unit also educated pupils on the day about the dangers of drugs and substance abuse.
