Sadag to host Moving for Mental wellness event

MOGALE CITY – In commemoration of the upcoming World Mental Health Day, The South African Depression and Anxiety Group (Sadag) will host a Moving for Mental Wellness fun day on 10 October.

The action-packed event will take place at the Nirox Art Foundation Park in the Cradle of Humankind and will be hosted in conjunction with outcomes research company, Hexor.

Cassey Chambers, operations manager at Sadag, elaborated on the reasons behind hosting the event, which will include a gruelling mountain bike race. “[Basically] the main objective of this event is to increase awareness and knowledge of mental illness and to encourage solidarity with those affected by mental illnesses,” she said.

Chambers added that by hosting the social event, which will also include a trail run race and an art exhibition, the group hoped to raise funds to aid Sadag’s helpline, which receives over 400 calls daily.

Additionally, the fun day will see food stalls, music and a picnic area ensuring a fun-filled afternoon for those attending. The mountain bike and trail run events are available for individual and team entries and are set to begin at 8am.

Chambers concluded by urging residents to come out and support the event and added, “Mental health [has an] impact on the entire family, so everyone can get involved in and support Moving For Mental Wellness.”
