Taste of Joburg reveals restaurant line-up

MONTECASINO – With only three weeks to go until this year’s Taste of Joburg, the highly anticipated restaurant list is finally out.

The list includes a few old restaurants and some new additions, ranging from Italian cuisine to Thai, French and Indian – the restaurants reflect the Joburg palate, bringing together the best of Joburg food all on one plate.

Festival director, Justine Drake said, “Selecting restaurants is always challenging because we want the show to grow every year. The expectations of the evolving Joburg palate are now such that we can afford to be a little more daring with our restaurant choices and I think our restaurants talk to that.”

The announced restaurants to date include:

  • 2 Thai 4, overseen by head chef Oya. The team from 2 Thai 4 promise a menu of authentic Thai cuisine using fresh herbs and traditional spices all prepared by Thai chefs
  •  A la Bouffe, a family-run restaurant overseen by head chef Romuald Denesle, plans to share their experience of French Cuisine with Johannesburg
  •  Eatery JHB, headed by chef Shayne Holt whose seasonal menu enables him to constantly change the food offering
  •  Escondido Tapas and Wine Restaurant headed by Chef Martine Christian, promises to bring one of their most favoured dishes, Arincini
  •  Fusion Pantry is a taste and flavour fusion by chef Robert Walker, whose motto is … ‘Eat simple, eat bold flavors, and eat for the pleasure of it, food can tell stories’
  •  Gwefey Restaurant, headed by chef Li and chef Liang, promises a flavourful trip across the Asian continent
  •  Junior South African National Culinary Team, headed by chef Klaus Beckann, owner of La Luna in Melville, will cook up a range of culinary delights to tantalise the taste buds
  •  Rabbit in the Moon, with chef Nuno Coelho Barata, guarantees an Italian feel menu that will make you feel like you are in Sicily
  •  Spiceburg restaurant is the first South Indian restaurant in Johannesburg serving up both authentic southern and northern Indian cuisine. With executive chef Jithender Datt Saklani at the helm, things are bound to be spiced up.

“We look forward to announcing our final list closer to the event, and in the interim, hope this list tantalises as much as it inspires,” Drake concluded.

Taste of Joburg will run at the Montecasino outdoor event area from 24 to 27 September.
