UPDATE: Basil the Yorkshire terrier recovering well

LONEHILL – Jodi-Ann Pearton, owner of Basil, the Yorkshire terrier which recently lit up social media after a Facebook post about a piece of the dog's ear being chopped off at Pompeii Pet Salon in Lonehill, has confirmed that the dog is recovering well.

In a joint statement posted on Pompeii Pet Salon’s Facebook page, the salon confirmed that they had since met up with Pearton to apologise for the incident, and have taken care of all veterinary bills incurred.

Despite her bad experience at the salon, Pearton has since accepted the salon’s apology and confirmed that it was never her intention to create bad publicity for the pet salon or turn people against them.

The owners of the salon, who wished to remain anonymous said, “Pearton reacted to the incident as can be expected of any person who loves their pets.”

The owners added that the incident had resulted in the salon implementing stringent measures to prevent any reoccurrences.

According to the owners, the salon plans to turn away unruly dogs, add cameras and supervise groomers more closely.

Michelle Townsend, general manager for the Tintswalo Property Group, who manages the Lonehill Shopping Centre said, “We support Pompeii Pet Salon and the way the situation was handled.”

Townsend added that despite the facts of the incident being incorrectly portrayed and hyped up on social media, she was confident that Pompeii Pet Salon would continue to succeed.

“We are sad that it has affected their business, but we are confident that they will turn their business around as the facts were not true. Pompeii Pet Salon provide a specialised, personal and individual service to the community and their pets,” Townsend concluded.
