Market Theatre’s latest duel language production

NEWTOWN – The Market Theatre will be delighting audiences in two different languages with its latest production, Undone/Ont.

Written and performed by Wessel Pretorius, a talented actor, writer and director who directs himself in the show Undone, was originally written and performed in Afrikaans under the title Ont.

The move into dual-language productions is an attempt to build on the Market Theatre’s commitment to serve its diverse audiences and build new audiences. Although the theatre has often presented shows in various languages, it has now formalised its multicultural commitment.

The journey into diverse language productions began when the theatre produced an Afrikaans production, As Die Broek Pas earlier this year, followed by Lepatata, its first fully Setswana production in August.

Undone/Ont is the story of a poet as he attempts to examine how his dysfunctional family has shaped him into the person he is, a journey from the cradle to adulthood. It is told through poetry and prose, and has rich imagery with a hint of religious and literary references.

Undone/Ont will be on stage from 4 to 20 September at the Barney Simon Theatre at the Market Theatre, corner of Bree Street and Miriam Makeba Street.

English performances will fall on Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays; while Afrikaans performances will be held on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Performance times are as follows:

Tuesdays to Saturdays – 8.15pm

Sundays – 3.15pm
