Fourways Mall – temporary taxi rank questions answered

FOURWAYS - Fourways Mall is currently undergoing a 27-month expansion, and due to the redevelopment, the current taxi holding area usually situated in one of the mall's car parks, will be temporarily relocated, which has received mixed reactions from residents in the area.

Fourways Review has reported that Ward 94 councillor John Mendelson has expressed his support for the taxi rank to be temporarily relocated. Development Manager of Fourways Precinct, Tony Koupis said that the taxi holding facilities new temporary site is on the corner of Roos Street and Fourways Boulevard, and would be there for a possible period of 15 months. The area will also serve as a secure public parking area for Fourways Mall customers while construction takes place.

Tony Koupis, further explained that while it is not the mall’s responsibility to accommodate a taxi parking area, they, as responsible developers, care about all of their shoppers, and feel that the commuters working in and around the Fourways area need to be accommodated during construction, until the permanent rank is completed.

“We saw the importance of providing a temporary solution that will alleviate congestion that would be caused by taxis parking on the sidewalks if they had nowhere to park and were not given alternative parking options,” said Koupis.

This is a developing story, Fourways Review will keep you updated on developments.
