Litter takes over Broadacres

BROADACRES - Broadacres is getting dirtier by the day.

This according to local resident Janine Sanders who contacted Fourways Review to vent her frustration. Sanders said the area has not been cleaned for a long time.

“The litter situation in Broadacres, especially at the intersection of Cedar and Valley roads, is going from bad to worse,” she said.

Sanders, who has lived in the area for 12 years, said she has been watching in horror as her neighborhood has been turning into a big dump site.

She added that the influx of taxis parking on the pavements at the intersection was not doing the neighborhood any favours.

“There are now also informal vendors on each corner, adding to the amount of litter as there are not enough dustbins available – not that many people use dustbins. A few years ago there were no vendors and taxis did not use the intersection as a taxi rank and parking lot,” she said.

Sanders raised the matter with Ward 96 councillor Matome Mafokwane, who she said only provided a temporary solution. Efforts to contact Mafokwane were unsuccessful.

Spokesperson of Pikitup has not responded to the Fourways Review’s questions about the litter in Broadacres.
