Police stop bullying

BROADACRES – Members of the Douglasdale police social crime prevention unit visited the North Sands Learning Academy to create awareness on the impact of bullying and self-respect.

Maxine Stewart, principal of the school said although police were initially called to do a safety assessment of the school, she thought it would be a great idea for them to also talk to Grade 1 to 7 pupils about self-respect and bullying.

Stewart added that although the school did not have a bullying problem, it was important to stress the fact that bullying was intolerable.

“The children were extremely inspired, and I highly recommend this programme to any school,” she said.

Warrant Officer Balan Muthan, head of communications for the Douglasdale police said, “It is important to teach children about bullying and self-respect now, so that they grow up knowing that it is wrong. Once children learn to live without hating their fellow man or woman, we will have a better society.”
