Lion Park to relocate

FOURWAYS – The Lion Park has announced that they will be moving the popular tourist attraction to the foothills of the Magaliesberg mountains after residing at its current location in Honeydew for 50 years.

The statement, which was posted on the park’s Facebook page on 14 July, read that the move will take place early in 2016 and will continue to offer the same world-renowned Lion Park experience but on a larger and more exciting scale.

Operations manager at the park, Scott Simpson, said that they feel incredibly excited about the move.

“When the park was first built 50 years ago, it was still in the middle of nowhere, so to say,” explained Simpson. “But with the current urban development in the area, this is no longer the case.”

Simpson explained that the park has owned the new property for some time already, and that construction on the new site is almost complete. “There will be a lot more space for our animals to roam and the enclosures will also be a lot bigger.”

Animal rights activists will be pleased to hear that interaction between humans and baby cubs will be ceased at the new location.

The park’s statement read:

“Whilst lion cub interaction is still very popular amongst the overwhelming majority of our visitors, as the industry leader, the Lion Park has been unjustifiably targeted by some of the media intimating that it is connected to the canned hunting industry. The Lion Park categorically denies any wrong-doing with regard to these insinuations.

“It is against the background of this negative media coverage and the ongoing campaigns against us by certain animal activist groups that the decision has been reached to cease the cub interaction and the breeding of lions at the new park. In the meantime, for the next few months, lion cub interaction will still be available at the existing Lion Park.”
