Rugby player raises funds for charities

JOBURG - Jean de Villiers launches his Tribute Series which will see the Paarl born rugby player raise funds for his selected charities through a benefit dinner and two golf days.

Springbok rugby captain Jean de Villiers launched his Tribute Series which will raise funds for his selected charities through a benefit dinner and two golf days.

De Villiers is rated as one of the world’s best inside centres, and is only the fifth player to have played more than 100 test matches for the Springboks.

Speaking at a breakfast held at Montecasino, the 34-year-old announced his Tribute Series would kick-off on 27 July with a gala dinner at the Sandton Convention Centre.

Following this, a golf day will be hosted on 18 August at the Killarney Country Club, then a Cape Town-based golf day on 4 September at Boschenmeer Country Club.

The golf days will see De Villiers and fellow Bok, Schalk Burger take part to raise funds for charities. De Villiers said he hoped that the public would join in his Tribute Series journey by raising funds with each event.

“There are three charities that are close to my heart, namely the Citadel Philanthropy Foundation, the Laureus Foundation and SuperSport Let’s Play. “It’s my aim of my Tribute Series to get to spend quality time with my fans, thank them for their support and rally funds for the selected charities,” said De Villiers

The gala dinner will have tables of 10 seats at a cost of R13 500, and will see several high-profile, current and former local and international rugby players in attendance.
