Body in the boot closing arguments

PALM RIDGE - CLOSING arguments in 'the body in the boot case' are to be heard today (22 June) in the Palm Ridge Magistrates' Court.

On 22 September 2013, police were alerted to a decomposing corpse at Montecasino after security guards detected a wretched smell coming from the boot of a parked vehicle. The body turned out to be that of the vehicles owner, Dustin Blom.

Two suspects, Maruschka Robinson and Jean Pierre Malan were arrested for the murder of Blom.

After pleading not guilty to the murder, the trial was postponed until 22 June when the prosecution and defence are due to present their closing arguments.

On 16 April this year, the court was shown surveillance footage of the night in question, which revealed the movements of Robinson and Malan at the casino after allegedly committing the murder.

Blom is thought to have died from asphyxiation.

The court heard significant evidence on 20 April this year which sought to incriminate the pair of alleged killers of drugging and stealing from Blom days before his death.

Fourways Review had exclusive access to the aforementioned surveillance footage and reported that the ‘accused gambled and laughed’ after allegedly committing the murder.
