The two officers who had remained in the vehicle were burnt to death.

The officer who was thrown from the vehicle is in a critical condition in hospital.

The driver of the BMW is suspected to have been intoxicated at the time of the accident.

Berdou said he would be charged with culpable homicide as well as driving under the influence of alcohol.

Berdou extended his condolences to the families of the accident victims on behalf of both the forum as well as the entire Honeydew Cluster.

“The issue of drinking and driving and the terrible consequences of driving while intoxicated has once again been highlighted by this tragic incident and unnecessary loss of life,” he said. “We call upon the community to exercise proper discretion and not to drink and drive.”

Berdou said the Honeydew Cluster will be taking a zero tolerance approach to drunk driving offenders.

Berdou added that Gauteng CPF chairperson Andy Mashaile also extended his condolences to the friends and family of the officers who lost their lives in the accident.
