Armed robbers hit R30 000 jackpot at Bryanston restaurant

BRYANSTON - ARMED robbers launched an early morning raid on 8 June at Tasha’s Restaurant in Nicolway Mall and got away with R30 000.

Instead of serving breakfast to their hungry customers, Tasha’s workers had to take cover on the cold floor with the barrel of a gun hovering over their heads.

Randburg Police Station commander, Colonel Andries Odendaal told Fourways Review that the four robbers struck as workers were in the process of opening the restaurant. Odendaal said one robber walked inside the restaurant and held workers up at gunpoint.

“One suspect went into the restaurant, pointed a firearm at the complainant and ordered everyone to lie down before emptying the tills,” said Odendaal.

He said a case of armed robbery was being investigated and police were following positive leads which might lead to early arrests. Odendaal added that the execution of the robbery was fairly quick and precise, and police could not rule out the possibility of an inside job.

“We can’t rule out that because the robbers seemed to know exactly where the money was,” he said.

Justin Bahrs, manager of Tasha’s Restaurant was at a loss for words when Fourways Review contacted him for a comment.

“We have just been robbed. We opened a case with the police,” said Bahrs. He said none of his staff was robbed.
