Owner of the noisy Paulshof alarm owns up
PAULSHOF - THE owner of the alarm which has been making an eardrum-splitting noise in Paulshof has finally come out of the closet.
The alarm belongs to City Parks which has come forward and claimed ownership after months of denying it was theirs.
Ward councillor of the area Stephen Moore revealed to Fourways Review that City Parks eventually switched off the alarm after an investigation identified that the utility was responsible for it.
The alarm is part of the security system of the fence that encloses the Rietfontein Nature Reserve. Wildlife rehabilitation centre FreeMe is based within the reserve.

“The alarm… is a backup system in the inner fence and not the main fence. That could be where the confusion was coming from,” said Moore.
Margo Bansda, managing director of FreeMe who City Parks had said was the owner of the alarm, said she was relieved that a solution was finally found. Bansda said the centre was renting a small space in the reserve, adding that City Parks officials erroneously assumed that the inner alarm belonged to them.
A resident Karolynn van Vuren said she was concerned that it took City Parks months to switch off the alarm.
“We are thrilled that the matter has finally been resolved and we can once again enjoy our garden village of the north,” said Van Vuren.
