Offroad club make generous donation to FreeMe

FOURWAYS – A NEW otter enclosure, improved telecommunications and a much-needed research database upgrade are what FreeMe Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre is going to do with the funds they received from the Nissan Offroad Club’s generous R64 500 donation.

The club consists of a group of avid Nissan enthusiasts who get together with other four-wheel drive clubs across the country for adventure drive outs and advanced 4×4 training. These clubs belong to the All-Wheel Drive Association of South Africa, and each year, a club is selected to do a fundraiser for their chosen charity.

Last year, the Nissan Offroad Club was selected to host this fun day and FreeMe was their charity of choice. The club handed the cheque over to FreeMe representatives at Mark White Nissan on William Nicol Drive.

“We had nine teams participating in the event on that day and about 90 vehicles in total,” said club representative George Brittnell.

“We also had a number of sponsors involved whom I would like to thank; Mark White Nissan, Securitech, Cross Country Insurers and, of course, the main sponsor on the day was Nissan itself.”

Managing director of FreeMe, Margo Bansda, was thrilled by the club’s generosity and felt that it was a great initiative.

“For them to raise this kind of money for FreeMe is just amazing,” she said.

“This will help us become the leading rehabilitation centre in Africa.”
