Gerald Fitzpatrick House gets a colourful makeover

JOBURG – A magnificent team effort saw Plascon representatives, local businesswoman Edith Venter and a few of her friends roll up their sleeves to give the Gerald Fitzpatrick House in Bertrams a new lick of paint.

Venter said that once she was approached to get involved in Plascon’s 15-year promotion, she immediately nominated the Gerald Fitzpatrick House, an elderly home for women which currently cares for and houses 85 ladies.

The crew, which included former Miss South Africa, Bernelee Daniell; finalist for Mrs South Africa 2015, Thando Sibotshiwe; and a few of Venter’s work colleagues painted the interior walls to give the home a bit of glamour. Plascon provided 100 litres of paint, as well as up to R10 000 worth of contractors’ work, as they helped with a few touch-ups as part of Plascon’s 15-Year Quality Guarantee Challenge.

“The hardest part was trying to make sure that I didn’t paint over things I shouldn’t. I now have great respect for the gentleman who painted my house – it is a lot harder than it looks,” Venter joked.

She added that being covered in paint at the end of the morning and seeing the home transformed and the happy faces of the women who are looked after there made it all worthwhile.

David Haggie, acting chairman of the facility said, “The ladies who live with us enjoy beauty and cherish their home. The newly-painted interiors will make the home a more cheerful place to be, bringing fresh colour into the environment. We’re grateful to Edith for spending her Saturday with us and to Plascon for providing the paint to beautify the home.”

Over the past few months, Plascon has been working with celebrities to bring colour and joy to deserving charities. Recently, 5FM DJ Rob Forbes and a troop of his loyal fans got dirty painting the Yenzani Children’s Home in Midrand, and before that, SABC sport presenters Romy Titus and Lebo Motsoeli painted the Ratanang Home in Soweto.

“It is a wonderful initiative and I congratulate Plascon on this project – it helps to add colour to the lives of people who are less fortunate than us,” added Venter.
